When John Quilty comes into the surgery for his regular examination, he’s usually got an interesting story to tell, and this time was no different. He was off to Vietnam to work as a volunteer in one of the country’s many orphanages, and whilst he wanted to make sure that his teeth were in first-class condition before he left, he was concerned that the young children he’d be looking after probably weren’t as fussy about theirs.
We shared his concern, and Sarah, our dental hygienist, took it on herself to speak with one of her contacts at Colgate, who got the wheels moving. We were able to source a consignment of toothbrushes on which the labels had been misprinted but were otherwise 100% OK – useless for sale but perfect for keeping teeth healthy. Colgate kindly donated these, and the Rockingham Dental Centre matched the donation with another consignment of children’s toothbrushes – all now on their way to Vietnam.
